The Złote Tarasy (Golden Terraces)
The Złote Tarasy (Golden Terraces) complex, designed by the California-based architectural firm Jerde Partnership, stands as a prominent and multifunctional landmark development in the heart of Warsaw.
With a total area of approximately 207,000 m2, the complex encompasses a shopping centre, two curved 11-storey office buildings that gracefully extend outward to the surrounding streets, and a striking 23-storey tower housing the embassies of Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
The Lumen and Skylight buildings, constructed on a substantial 1.2-meter-thick transfer slab, offer a combined office space exceeding 45,000 m2. Pedestrian links connect these structures to the adjacent Warsaw Central railway station. Below ground, the complex features four basement levels extending across the entire 32,000 m2 site, providing 1,600 parking spaces and a 6,000 m² truck service yard.
Within the shopping centre itself, visitors can find a variety of amenities, including a multi-screen cinema, over 200 stores, and 40 restaurants, cafes, and bars. The focal point of the centre is an elegant, undulating glass and steel diagrid roof spanning an impressive 10,500 m2. Supported by eleven distinctive structural ‘trees,’ this geometrically intricate roof received well-deserved recognition by winning the European Steel Design Award in 2007. The specialised contractor, Waagner-Biro, was responsible for its construction.
