Battersea Power Station
The former industrial brownfield site at Battersea Power Station has emerged as one of central London’s most ambitious and expansive mixed-use developments.
Spanning 42 acres and divided into eight distinct phases, this visionary project is being shaped by a consortium of specialised architects. Its ultimate goal is to create a vibrant new neighbourhood and business district, accompanied by over 19 acres of public space. Enhancing connectivity, the development includes an extension to the Northern Line and the integration of Thames Clippers river bus services.
The initial phase, Circus West Village, designed by SimpsonHaugh, was completed in 2017. Following its success, acclaimed architects Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners were enlisted to create Electric Boulevard, a new high street concept for London. Additional components include Prospect Place and Battersea Roof Gardens, offering a diverse range of amenities such as apartments, bars, restaurants, office spaces, shops, and green spaces. Notably, the site also features an art-themed hotel with 164 rooms.
In October 2022, Battersea Power Station opened its doors to the public, earning the prestigious ‘Developer of the Year – Commercial Property’ accolade at the 2023 Property Awards. This recognition acknowledges the transformative restoration of the Grade II* listed landmark. The iconic chimneys were dismantled and reconstructed, while the building’s distinct brickwork was painstakingly replicated using 1.75 million matching replacements.
The power station now houses Apple’s new London headquarters, 254 impressive apartments, and an array of over 100 shops, restaurants, and bars within its historic turbine halls. The site also boasts a versatile event venue with a capacity of approximately 2000, a food hall, and a captivating glass chimney lift that elevates visitors 109m up the north-west chimney, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the London skyline.
